LATEST ADDITIONS

NEW for 2024

UPDATED. Aristocrats and Artists – Historic Holland Park
See Holland Park’s beautiful gardens and the remains of a Jacobean mansion. We move on to the Melbury Road Artists Quarter to admire the magnificent houses of Luke Fildes , William Holman Hunt and other creatives. After viewing Lord Leighton’s House (interior not included) we visit some back streets of Kensington , finishing near High Street Kensington tube station.

Pineapples, Pachyderms & Parliament Hill – Historic Kentish Town

During this tour we discover the area north of Kentish Town station, a part of London which surprises and delights.  The most colourful streets in town, a country lane in the heart of the city, a street which inspired the first pop video, a delightful Georgian terrace, former railway lands, a creative community and the green space of Parliament Hill with its breathtaking views.  On the way  we’ll “meet” writers, artists, a famous comedy actor and marauding elephants!

The London of Bram Stoker & Dracula

Although born in Ireland, Bram Stoker came to London to work with the great Actor Manager Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre and spent the rest of  his life here. While working at the Lyceum he published his most famous and enduring novel “Dracula” in 1897. This  tour takes us to the London locations of that novel so we cover a wide range of ground tracing the footsteps of the fictional vampire and his creator.  Learn about the places Stoker visited, the people he knew, the library where he researched and the history of the book on stage and screen.

From Farmland to Football – Discover Leyton

On this walk we trace the history of one of East London’s lesser known area which presents some surprises. A magnificent former town hall, beautiful gardens, a lost river, former marshland, a cricket ground, almshouses , an ancient church  and a football stadium all feature. We hear about archaeological excavations, protests to preserve the area’s open spaces, connections with  a famous public school, a cook who impressed a king, a television scriptwriter, an Archbishop, a brave young soldier , a trailblazing footballer and much more .  Finish in a road full of independent shops at the heart of Leyton’s recent regeneration.

The public Theatreland Walking tour will return at a later date.  In the meantime this tour can be booked privately for groups of all sizes by emailing diane@secretlondonwalkingtours.co.uk to discuss dates.
